Training Groups
Depending on the time of the year and the number of people training there could be up to 6 standards of training groups going out for a training session. Details of these groups and a guide to the standard for each is below:
A Group
Runners should be able to run a sub 45 minute 10km.
Group members compete over various distances and surfaces.
Club training schedule focuses predominantly on interval training.
B Group
Runners should be able to run a 45-55 minute 10km.
The B Group incorporates improving runners as well as those comfortable at their current level.
Training is aimed at race participation and improvement.
Club training schedule focuses predominantly on intervals training.
C Group
Runners should be able to run continuously for 45 minutes.
Training is aimed at race participation and improvement.
Club training schedule focuses predominantly on intervals training.
B and C groups usually train together, with C aiming to undertake the same schedule as B.
Introduction to Intermediate Training Group
Runners looking to move on from the Beginners Level with perhaps the aim of moving into the C or B Group.
A 5 week programme is organised by the club and runs annually, from early June.
For an example training schedule see link through to Training Schedules and New to Running sections.
Beginners Group
For people who are new or returning to running who want to get fit and have fun in a club run group environment.
Programme runs annually for 10 weeks, usually from early March.
The aim of the programme is to get participants running in a 10km race at the end of the 10 weeks. See link through to Training Schedule and New to Running section.
Social Joggers
Not a specific group but there are usually individuals around who want to just go for a jog/easy run.
