Glen Fruin Relay
In years gone by Helensburgh AAC organised an annual 15.4 mile race through Glen Fruin with the race starting and finishing in the town. The last race was run in 1999.
In 2008 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Helensburgh Amateur Athletic Club the race was resurrected in the form of a 3 person team relay race and was repeated, due to popular demand, in 2009.
A previous course map, including changeover points can be viewed here – View Map.
2011 Event Details
Race Date – Sunday 28th August at 10am.
Meet Time – 9.30am at the Start/Finish Location
Race Start Time – 10.00am
Start and Finish Location – Lomond School NEW Gym Hall on Rhu Road Higher
Entry – 3.00 per person (to cover hire of the Gym and shower facilities)
Race Format – Each club member is allocated to a particular relay leg – either the beginner level, intermediate level or the advanced level. Advanced runners will be allocated the ‘harder, longer’ leg, Beginners the ‘flatter, shorter’ leg and the Intermediates the ‘not so hard and not so short’ leg.
Course – It is intended that the course for this year will be start from the Lomond School Gym, head out to Rhu, Shandon and then into Glen Fruin, through the Fruin and out onto Sinclair Street and back to the Lomond School Gym. The legs are as follows; 1st leg (faster runners) = Lomond School to Glen Douglas Road Junction (undulating 6.1 miles), 2nd leg (slower runners) = Glen Douglas Road Junction to Metal Bridge (flat 4.1 miles) and 3rd leg (intermediate runners) = Metal Bridge back to Lomond School (undulating 4 miles).
A map of the entire route can be found by clicking here.
Anything else? – It is not compulsory but it is a nice idea for participants to sport their Helensburgh AAC running vests when taking part in this Club Event.
Post Race Refuelling – PARTICIPANTS AND SUPPORTERS ARE ASKED TO PROVIDE BAKING AND OTHER EDIBLE DELICACIES FOR CONSUMPTION IN THE GYM HALL AFTER THE EVENT!!
PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT ON THE POSTER DISPLAYED IN THE CLUBHOUSE OR EMAIL YOUR INTEREST TO secretary@helensburghaac.co.uk
Team and confirmed course/race details will be emailed and posted on the website nearer to the event date.
