Club Info

Helensburgh Amateur Athletic Club roots go back to 1982 when some members of the Helensburgh Rugby Club formed a jogging group to train for the Glasgow Marathon. A notice was placed in the Helensburgh Advertiser inviting any other marathon runners to come along and join in. Such was the response that it was decided to formally constitute the group and so in 1983, Helensburgh Amateur Athletic Club was formed. And such was the success of the new Club that it was decided to open it up to Junior athletes.

In the following years, the Club went from strength to strength and despite some fluctuations in fortunes, today Helensburgh Amateur Athletic Club numbers over 100 members – Junior and Senior, male and female, from ages 8 to 80, including some members of the original jogging group and therefore founder members of the Club.

Club members take part in numerous events on a variety of surfaces, some of which include:

Road – Polaroid 10Km Road Race Series, Women’s 10K, Stewarts Grand Prix Road Race Series, Tour of Clydeside, Heb 3 Road Race Series, National Road Relays, National and International Marathons.

Cross Country – West Dunbartonshire XC Championships, West Dunbartonshire XC Relays, West District XC Championships, National XC Championships.
